Beset by internal unrest, the vast Russian Empire military effort against the Central Powers in World War 1 would only run until October of 1917.

The Russian Empire was at war against the Central Powers (German Empire, Austro-Hungarian Empire, Ottoman Empire, and Bulgaria) along the Eatern Front during World War 1 (1914-1918). Formal war between the two sides began on August 17th, 1914 and spanned some three-and-a-half years of fighting before the Russian Empire collapsed from internal unrest and other factors. This vacuum then led to the Russian Revolution which sowed the seeds for the Soviet Union whose own existence spanned the Cold War decades (1922-1991).

The Eastern Front, with its vast stretches of open terrain, meant that trench warfare was not a dominant part of the battlefield as it was in the West. Like the Western theater, the aircraft became the dominant form of over-battlefield reconnaissance, support and artillery direction. On hand were collections of varying aircraft types - mainly second-line or obsolete models - as well as airships for Germany.

In the end, the Central Powers claimed the victory as hostilities ceased on March 3rd, 1918. Casualties numbered 5.1 million for the Central Powers and 9.5 million for the Russians. There are a total of [ 30 ] WW1 Russian Empire Aircraft entries in the Military Factory. Entries are listed below in alphanumeric order (1-to-Z). Flag images indicative of country of origin and not necessarily the primary operator. Immediate pre-war and post-war types and X-planes are also included in this listing.
