The Iranian designed and built Zulfiqar main battle tank is said to be an upgraded version of the Soviet-built T-55 main battle tank. The difference being that the Zulfiqar features an updated powerplant, a computerized fire control system, NBC crew protection and day/night sighting capability. The Zulfiqar is operated by a crew of three personnel. The automatic loader (said to be the same one from the Soviet-built T-72 tank and produced locally in Iran) negates the need for a fourth crewman in the turret. Additions such as explosive reactive armor can be assumed.
