Lend-Lease Soviet Aircraft of WWII (1939-1945)
Aviation / Aerospace
The Red Air Force received nearly 20,000 combat aircraft from the Allies during the fighting of World War 2.
As with the ground war, the Soviet Union's war effort during The Second World War was propped up by the 17,821 combat aircraft delivered from the Allies (namely Britain and the United States). For its part, the United States contributed over 13,200 aircraft ranging from the classic P-40 Warhawk to the exceptional P-47 Thunderbolt. The British sent the Soviets stocks of Hurricane and Spitfire fighters as well as Hampden and Albemarle bombers along with other types. In the end, these aircraft helped to fortify the Soviet response which went on to crush the invading Germans all the way back to their capital.
