Edge PJSC Group of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has developed the "Reason-S", a fixed-wing reusable reconnaissance- / attack-minded drone system. The aircraft receives the "Medium Altitude, Long-Endurance (MALE)" classification, placing it in the same category as the American "Reaper" and Turkish Bayraktar TB2 types. The company produces a wide variety of solutions including weapon racks, lightweight munitions, industrial parts, and even cruise missiles (the "Saber").

The Reach-S has a design form not unlike the competing TB2: the 12-meter-span mainplanes are set at midships and are straight with clipped tips. Each mainplane supports up to two hardpoints for air-launched weapons (restricted to light-class air-dropped ordnance). The nose section is broad with a smooth, curved appearance while housing avionics and seating a dorsal optics set. The tail unit is of twin-boom configuration, the stems joined at their aft ends by a pair of inward-cranked vertical planes. The conventional gasoline-fueled 110 horsepower engine is positioned at the rear of the fuselage driving a two-bladed propeller unit in pusher fashion. The undercarriage is a wheeled tricycle arrangement and fixed during flight. Overall length of the aircraft is 5.5 meters.

Take-off weight is in the vicinity of 600 kilograms with a weapons load equal to 120 kilograms. The aircraft can cruise at speeds of 80 knots up to an altitude of 22,000 feet. Communications are out to 200 kilometers and the aircraft can reportedly fly for up to 24 hours before returning home. Take-off and landing actions are automated.

To date, the system has received a sizeable order of 100 units from the UAE itself, a country long-since reliant on American, Chinese, and Turkish drone solutions until now.©MilitaryFactory.com
