The UKRSPEC Systems Shark is an Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS) designed, developed, and manufactured in Ukraine. The drone appeared against the backdrop of war following the Russian invasion of the country, engineers able to get the aircraft online in less than a year. The system is optimized for general aerial reconnaissance and can be further utilized in border patrol, law enforcement, and aerial mapping roles as well. The complete package includes the drone unit itself, the catapult launcher, the Ground Control Station (GCS) (with integrated software), and tracking antenna.

UKRSPEC Systems has a growing stable of drone aircraft that includes the PD-1, PD-2, and Leleka-100 products detailed elsewhere on the Military Factory.

As built, the Shark has a shape akin to its namesake. The fuselage features a sloped, pointed nose cone with the turreted optics set positioned under it. The mainplanes are mid-mounted along the sides of the fuselage with slightly downturned tips. The tailplanes are arranged in a downward, outward-canted configuration. A ventral fin is positioned between midships and the tail unit. The tail unit sports a two-bladed propeller unit to drive the aircraft utilizing a pusher arrangement. The wingspan measures 3.4 meters.

Performance-wise, the drone can reach a speed of 130 kmh and cruise at speeds near 75kmh up to a ceiling of 3,000 meters.

The Shark system is marketed with a completely encrypted datalink, offers real-time reconnaissance (day-view full HD quality with recording), and operates through a low-noise signature. The optics set offers zoom magnification up to 90x and can track targets out to 5,000 meters while offering full digital stabilization and an anti-fogging feature. Communication ranges are up to 80 kilometers. Maximum Take-Off Weight (MTOW) is listed at 12.5 kilograms.

Launching of the unit is via catapult and recovery is through a deployed parachute system retarding the aircraft's fall. The unit can then be picked up and packed up for reuse by ground forces.

The Shark has been identified as actively working in conjunction with the American HIMARS rocket-projecting vehicle in the counter-battery / artillery-spotting role under the command of Ukrainian forces.©MilitaryFactory.com
