Polish students at the Rzeszow University of Technology are working on the PRz PR-5 Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) for reconnaissance applications. The PR-5 is the current evolution of a line of experimental UAVs that began with the PR-1 and was progressed from its original form. The PR-5 gained traction in early 2006 and has seen development since. It is remotely controlled by a ground operator and recovered by way of parachute.
The PR-5 uses a conventional aircraft arrangement with a centralized fuselage assembly, monoplane wings, and tail unit. The fuselage - housing the necessary functional components of the UAV - features slab sides and tapering from midships to the tail. The tail is arranged in a V-tail with two outward-cranked vertical fins. The wing mainplanes are high mounted atop the fuselage. Two electric motors provide the necessary drive power to the two-bladed propellers seated at each wing leading edge. Dimensions include an overall length of 1.4 meters and a wingspan of 2.14 meters with a height of 0.3 meters. Maximum Take-Off Weight (MTOW) is 5.5 kilograms.
The 2 x AXI 2820/14 electric motors deliver an endurance window of approximately 50 minutes.
