Navies are made up of multiple ship types to help cover a broad spectrum of missions.

Navies have always been arranged by ships types offering varying capabilities to suit the mission need. Today's modern navies revolved around the aircraft carrier and its support ships which include frigates, destroyers and corvettes. Some services still rely on the trusted and true cruiser while, still others, are wholly made up of patrol and torpedo boats. Beyond the usual war-making types are the logistically-minded vessels that make victory in war possible as well as those, like minesweepers, that are specifically designed to deny strategic waterways and ports.
