The SAR USA SAR 9 is a modern polymer semi-automatic pistol offering imported from Turkey to the American market. The type is of conventional design arrangement and general operation, being a striker-fired action pistol chambered in the ubiquitous 9mm pistol cartridge. The Gen 3 form is the current model (2023) marketed and arrives in the SAR9 (17+1) and SAR Compliant body finishes, the latter reducing the magazine capacity to 10+1. To comply with certain states' restrictions.

SAR USA claims the pistol to be the "most rigorously testing pistol ever developed".

The pistol's polymer section is the grip module integrating the grip handle / magazine well, trigger ring and trigger unit, and a short section of Picatinny rail under the muzzle. Controls are within easy reach and include the takedown lever, slide catch, and magazine release. Magazines are inserted into the base of the grip in the usual way. The grip handle, angled at a comfortable 20-degrees, is well-contoured and textured for a firm hold while there is a small area of ribbing along the forward face of the trigger ring. The back strap and grip panels are interchangeable for the shooter, allowing him/her to find the best fit-in-hand. Unlike some modern semi-automatic pistols, the SAR9 has a striker status indicator. The length-of-action is reported at 7.5 inches. Weight is a handy 27.8 ounces.

The slide component sits over the grip module and incorporates a forward and rear sighting device for accurized aiming. The ejection port is set to the right side of the frame. Serrations are seen at the front and rear sides of the slide for enhanced management of the slide. The barrel, measuring 4.4 inches long, and slide are both constructed of forged steel. The slide also arrives ready-to-mount sighting devices for some models.

All told, the pistol breaks down into the usual semi-automatic pistol components: grip module, slide, recoil spring, barrel, and magazine.

The SAR9 is available in a black, platinum, green, and bronze finish (some in two-tone) and major variants include the SAR9 Subcompact, SAR9 Compact, SAR9 Gen 3 (base), SAR Sport, SAR 9 SOCOM (threaded barrel, overframe optics), SAR9X, SAR9 CX, SAR 9 METE, and SAR9 SPORT.

American market reception of this pistol series has been generally good. The complete supplied kit includes the pistol itself, manual, 2 x Magazines, backstraps / grip panels, lock, punch-out tool, and cleaning tools / solutions to better compete with major pistol brands - all covered in a handled hard case.
