Largely known for its storied collection of shotguns and rifles for hunting, sport shooting, and home defense, Mossberg also produces the impressive "MC2C" semi-automatic pistol. The general arrangement of this pistol is conventional with an angled, ergonomic hand grip, integrated trigger unit, and slide component. The trigger is set at the midway point of the design while magazines are fed through the base of the grip. The slide sports angled serrations for enhanced slide management and the grip showcases aggressive styling for a fir hold and comfortable fit. The trigger is of a flat-profile design with a 5.5lb pull. Construction of the gun includes high-tensile strength glass-reinforced polymer and 416 stainless steel.

Chambered in the ubiquitous 9mm pistol cartridge, the MC2c feeds from a variable count (model-dependent) Double-Stacked (DS) detachable box magazine The magazine has achieved the slimmest possible design which plays well into the inherent ergonomics of the gun, resulting in an easier to manage firearm. Magazines are also available in a flush or extended version.

The slide component is ready for the mounting of tactical optics to enhance accuracy. This is in addition to the snag-free dovetail 3-dot sighting device as standard while TRUGLO Tritium PRO sights are an option. An integrated accessory rail is also seen under the muzzle (ahead of the trigger unit) for the mounting of additional tactical equipment.

The MC2c family of sidearms is currently (2023) marketed in five distinct forms: the "MC2c Optic-Ready" (14- and 16-round DS magazines), the "MC2c Optic-Ready with Manual Safety" (compact model, 14- and 16-round DS magazines), the "MC2c Optic-Ready with Tritium PRO Sights", the "MC2c Optic-Ready 10+1" (compact model with 2 x 10-round DS magazines), and the "MC2c MA Compliant (LCVP) Optic Ready" (compact model with 2 x 10-round DS magazines). All are chambered for 9mm and have a barrel length of 3.9" with variable magazine loads.

The MC2sc is the Sub-Compact offshoot of the base MC2c offering a more compact footprint for its given role. This model, itself, has its own five offshoots.
