The FABARM STF-12 is an all-modern manual pump-action tactical shotgun for military, security, and law enforcement use. An inherently modular design, the weapon can be customized in a variety of ways for the shooter, and role required, while also allowing for quick-changing of major components including the barrel assembly and accessory rails. Its construction allows for all-weather use and in-the-field compactness can be accentuated by further customization of the unit.
FABARM, established in 1900, is based in Italy and stands for "Fabbrica Bresciana ARMi". The concern is largely recognized for its contributions to sport/competition shooting.
The gun's layout is conventional with a support/shoulder stock at the rear, a large slotted muzzle brake at the front, and pistol grip slung under the rectangular receiver. The ejection port is seated to the right side of the body and the forend ribbed for a firmer grip. An enlarged trigger and trigger ring allows use of a gloved hand. The weapon sports a long-running section of Picatinny rail across the top of the receiver and forend giving the operator options for tactical accessories benefitting Close Quarters Battle (CQB) or ranged fire. Additional accessories (such as laser aimers) can be installed under the forend ahead of the supporting hand and lateral forend attachments are sold as optional. The useful shoulder stock is skeletal - reducing weight but none of the effective support it offers the shooter at the shoulder. Sling swivels (at the 9 O-clock position) allow a strap to be fitted. Soft and hard cases are offered for transport of the unit.
The shotgun is available in several finishes including STF-12 Black and STF-12 FDE (desert).
The base flat-black model is chambered for 12 gauge and has a barrel length of 18" (overall length reaches 36.54 inches). The finish is non-glossy to enhance tactical surprise. The underslung cylindrical magazine holds five shells and a sixth can be chambered when going into action. A cooling jacket dispels heat from the barrel to keep the vital component from overheating/fracturing/deforming in sustained-fire actions. The stock assembly is of synthetic design to retain strength while reducing operating weight. The frame is finished in a black anodized non-glare coating. Iron sighting is through a detachable flat ghost rear with adjustable front arrangement, allowing for tactical accessories to be fitted instead.
The muzzle brake assembly is designed in such a way as to deflect escaping muzzle gasses in three directions away from the shooter's face and hands and clear of the line-to-target.
The FABARM STF-12 is actively used by the Portuguese Army alongside the Benelli M4/Supernova, SPAS-15, Remington M870, and Mossberg 590 types.
