The Fatahillah-class is a group of Cold War-era corvette surface combatants currently serving the modern Indonesian Navy. These ships were built by the specialists of Wilton-Fijenoord of The Netherlands and constructed from 1977 to 1980, entering commissioned service in 1979. A total of three hulls were competed by the Dutch for the Indonesians with the trio remaining in active service as of this writing (2023). KRI Fatahillah (361) is the lead-ship of the class, laid down on January 31st, 1977 and launched on December 22nd of that year. She was formally commissioned into service on July 16th, 1979 and homeports out of Sorong.

As an aging product of the Cold War period (the hull is over 40 years old), KRI Fatahillah lacks some of the more modern qualities seen in contemporary corvette-type warships including primary reliance on missile weaponry and in-built stealth features. Nevertheless, she carries sensors and systems to keep her a viable warship for the Asia-Pacific Theater.

The warship features a complement of 89 and carries the Terma SCANTER 4100 series search radar, a pair of Ultra Electronics Series 2500 EO directors, and features the Signaal PHS-32 hull-mounted sonar fit. The Combat Management System (CMS) is the Ultra Electronics OSIRIS CMS.

Installed power is of a COmbined Diesel-And-Diesel (CODAD) arrangement to maximize fuel economy. This encompasses a single Rolls-Royce Olympus TM-3B gas turbine offering 28,000 horsepower alongside 2 x MTU 16V956 TB81 marine diesel units generating an additional 6,000 horsepower to 2 x Shafts under stern. All told, this provides the vessel with a top ocean-going speed of 30 knots (under ideal conditions) out to a range of 4,250 nautical miles.

Armament is a modest arrangement centered on ballistic, rocket, and torpedo solutions: there is 1 x 120mm /46 caliber Bofors TAK120 turreted deck gun backed by a 40mm Bofors SAK40/L70-350 AFD automatic cannon and a pair of 20mm Yugoimport-SDPR M71/08 automatic cannons. Beyond this is a twin-tubed 365mm Bofors Anti-Submarine ROCket (ASROC) launcher and a pair of Mk 32 triple torpedo tubes (Mark 46 or WASS A244-S torpedo families).

KRI Fatahillah makes up the crucial corvette surface arm of the Indonesian Navy - currently (2023) numbering 25 hulls in all. A mid-life modernization stripped her of her MM.38 EXOCET anti-ship missile capability as well as Signaal radar system while upgrading the powerplant from COmbined Diesel-Or-Gas (CODOG) to the aforementioned CODAD arrangement. This work took place from 2013 to 2016 and was handled by Ultra Electronics.
