CNS Yiyang (548) is a guided-missile frigate of the modern Chinese Navy (People's Liberation Army Navy = PLAN) belonging to the Type 054A-class (NATO: "Jiangkai II") design. The class consists of thirty completed hulls (as of 2023) from a planned collection of fifty ships with construction begun in 2005 and commissioned service following in 2008. The Type 054A is an advancement of the earlier Type 054 (NATO: "Jiangkai I"), most notable in their capabilities against medium-ranged aerial threats / self-defense.

The 4,300-ton Yiyang was laid down by shipbuilder Huangpu of Shanghai in 2006 and launched on November 17th, 2009. She was formally commissioned into the ranks of the PLAN on October 26th, 2010, retaining an active status in the fleet today (2023) while being assigned to the East Sea Fleet.

Externally, the warship is given all of the modern traits and qualities expected of a frontline, Blue Water surface combatant. The forecastle is left relatively unobstructed save for the turreted deck gun. The Vertical Launch System (VLS) is seated directly aft of the emplacement and in front of the bridge superstructure section. The superstructure runs unbroken from aft of the forecastle to just ahead of the stern. The main mast is enclosed and seats all manner of sensors, communications, and process systems. Anti-ship missile launchers are positioned over midships overlooking either side of the hull. Aft of this is the low-profile, enclosed smoke funnels. The superstructure terminates with a full-service helicopter hangar area leading out to the open-air helipad over the stern.

Internally there is a complement of 165 personnel. She carries Type 382 and Type 344 series radar fits as well as a collection of four Type 345 fire control radar units. The Type 922-1 serves as the ship's Radar Warning Receiver (RWR) and various systems and subsystems make up the vessel's decoy and Electronic Warfare (EW) suite for self-preservation.

Power is through a CODAD (COmbined Diesel-And-Diesel) arrangement involving 4 x Shaanxi 16 PA6 STC marine diesels producing 7,600 horsepower each driving 2 x Shafts astern. Maximum speed in ideal conditions reaches 27 knots and range is out to 4,000 nautical miles.

Armament is led by a 1 x32-cell VLS and 1 x 76mm PJ26 turreted deck gun. The VLS can house Surface-to-Air Missiles (SAMs), land-attack cruise missiles, or anti-submarine solutions or a mix of the three. There are also 2 x 4-cell YJ-83 anti-ship / land-attack launchers over midships. Close-in defense is handled by 2 x 30mm Gatling-style digitally-controlled Type 730 Close-In Weapon Systems (CIWSs). The warship is also equipped with 2 x 324mm triple-torpedo tubes supporting the Yu-7 torpedo family. 2 x 6 240mm Type 87 launchers provide an Anti-Submarine ROCket (ASROC) solution and 2 x Type 726-4 18-tube launchers house decoys.

Beyond this, the warship can launch and retrieve a single Harbin Z-9C or Kamov Ka-28 (or similar) navy helicopter from the stern-based helipad as needed. The hangar provides full support for rotorcraft and compact UAVs capable of ship-launched service.
