CNS Xiamen (154) is an all-modern Guided-Missile Destroyer warship of the People's Liberation Army Navy (PLAN) of China. The vessel bellows to the Type 052D class, recognized by NATO as the Luyang III-class, which began commissioned service in 2014 and totals 25 active hulls today (2023). The Type 052D succeeded the Type 052C, bringing about use of a canister-based SAM/SSA Vertical Launching System (VLS) for its missile armament and revised Active, Electronically-Scanned Array (AESA) radar. For its part, CNS Xiamen was built by the specialists at the Jiangnan Shipyard of Shanghai, China, was launched on December 30th, 2014, and entered commissioned service on June 10th, 2017.

The warship displaces 7,500 tons under full load and has a bow-to-stern length of 515 feet, a beam of 56 feet, and a draught down to 20 feet. The propulsion scheme is of COmbined Diesel-Or-Gas (CODOG) to maximize fuel efficiency and speed. Installed systems include the Type 346 and Type 518 series radar fits and the ship carries both a variable depth sonar and a towed sonar array.

Armament includes a 130mm turreted deck gun, a 64-cell VLS supporting the HHQ-9 SAM (Surface-to-Air Missile), YJ-18 SSM (Surface-to-Surface Missile), and CY-5 ASW missiles (Anti-Submarine Warfare), 1 x HQ-10 24-cell SAM launcher, and a Type 730 Close-In-Weapon System (CIWS).

The ship's profile is consistent with class design: the turret is seated over the forecastle with the VLS embedded directly aft. Aft of the VLS is the bridge section with its towering, enclosed mast works. From here, the hull superstructure steps down to incorporate the smoke funnels which are of an enclosed, low-profile design. A secondary hull superstructure outcropping seats the radar set leading to the hangar deck / helipad area over the ster. A single navy helicopter is supported from this area and provides critical Over-the-Horizon (OtH) capabilities.

Like other modern warships, CNS Xiamen incorporates stealth features that include a blended hull-superstructure approach and minimal protrusions to go along with a low profile.
