The Ruger SFAR is a new (2022) AR-style auto-loading sporting rifle offered by Sturm, Ruger, & Company of the United States. The design is billed as "small frame" solution while retaining all of the benefits of a medium-sized, .308 chambered sporting rifle with inherent compactness and weight-savings measures to produce one unique firearm. As such, the firearm has a profile more akin to a 5.56mm sporting type.

The rifle's arrangement is conventional: the Ruger Elite 452 series trigger unit (4.5lb, 2-stage trigger pull) is set at the lower section of the frame in the usual way with integral ring and ergonomically-angled (rearward) pistol grip. Chambering is in .308 WIN / 7.62mm NATO feeding from a 20-round detachable, spring-loaded box magazine, the magazine inserted into the well ahead of the action. The ejection port is set over the right side of the frame. The lightweight stock allows for some adjustment. Barrel length is variable depending on the model in play (Model 5610 or Model 5611) as 16.1" or 20" long barrel assemblies are available (these constructed from 4140 Chrome-Moly Steel; cold hammer-forged with black nitride finish). A section of Picatinny rail is featured over the receiver for the mounting of optics, aimers, magnifiers while additional tactical accessories can be affixed at the usual 3-, 6-, and 9-o'clock positions at the handguard.

The aforementioned Model 5610 comes with a 16.1" barrel (minimal muzzle protrusion) and a lite Free-Float with M-LOK attachment slots handguard (15" aluminum) and a break in the rail run. The Model 5611 has the 20" barrel with Free--Float M-LOK attachment slots and has a continuous rail length. Both share the ergonomically-minded MAGPUL MOE SL stock and feature a double-baffled muzzle break.
