The LAV-150 is a light armored 4x4 vehicle that has been in the US Army since 1964 in other forms with the LAV-100 making an extensive appearance in the Vietnam War. The LAV-150 replaced both the LAV-100 (M706) and LAV-200 in US Army service. The newest model in the series is the LAV-150 and is a standard 4x4 vehicle capable of decent offroad and highway speeds. The model saw an upgrade to the LAV-150S in the mid-1980s. Originally produced by Cadillac Gage, it has since been produced by the Textron Marine and Land Division from Louisiana.

The 4x4 LAV-150 carries a crew of 3 (driver, commander and gunner) and can carry an additional 2-3 passengers as well. A variety of weapons can be fitted into the turret (detailed above in the armament section) making the LAV-150 multi-faceted depending on mission specifics.

Other 6x6 versions of the LAV-150 have been built as well and roles run the gamut of support, ambulance and reconnaissance (a winch is also mounted on the front of the hull for battlefield engineering duties). The LAV-150 series of armored cars (sometimes designated as an Armored Personnel Carrier (APC) or Infantry Fighting Vehicle (IFV) has seen export to the countries listed below.
