An industrialized, fractured Europe was the ripe setting for a new, large-scale conflict between global superpowers. Technology reigned supreme over the battlefield that saw tactics and strategies evolve. The machine gun, tank and aircraft were all major components of the fighting yet no one instrument was a war-winning development in and of itself. In the end, national lines were redrawn and Europe rebuilt as the stage was being set for World War 2 - an offshoot of The Great War itself.
