The SIG516 continues the well-established tradition of operational reliability and ease of use concerning the AR-15 family of automatic weapons. The SIG516 incorporates a four-position gas regulator to manage its tried-and-true gas piston operation and is chambered for the widely-accepted 5.56x45mm NATO cartridge. The barrel is of a free-floating design for accuracy and treated in a Nitride finish to combat corrosion. The rifle takes on the classic AR15/M16 appearance and configuration with its integral pistol grip/trigger unit and forward-set magazine well. The barrel is shrouded in a heavily perforated forend while the buttstock is adjustable to suit operator tastes. A long-running section of M1913 Picatinny rail is featured over the receiver and over the forend allowed for the mounting of various tactical accessories. Additional rails are along the sides and under the shield. A flip-up iron front and rear sight is still retained. The barrel is capped by a slotted flash suppressor. Construction of the gun incorporates aluminum with a hard coat anodized finish.

The SIG516 is offered in the Patrol, Patrol FDE ("Flat Dark Earth"), OD Green ("Olive Drab Green"), Carbon and Carbon TS forms and finishes. The Carbon variation includes Ambi QD sling mounts, a lengthened forend of carbon fiber, a carbon fiber fixed shoulder stock, Lancer 30-round L5 transparent magazine and 2-stage match trigger unit. The Carbon TS model retains the M16-style adjustable shoulder stock while utilizing the aforementioned lengthened carbon fiber forend.

The SIG 516 is featured in the inventory of the Australian Victoria Police Special Operations Group (SOG).©MilitaryFactory.com
