The M&P ("Military and Police") is a conventional semi-automatic handgun offered by Smith & Wesson in .22 LR, .380 ACP, 9x19mm Parabellum, .40 S&W, .357 SIG, and .45 ACP flavors. It was introduced in 2005 and has been adopted by a plethora of police and military security forces while also proving popular for civilian personal defense. Finishes include black and dark earth with barrel lengths measuring 2.75 inches to 5 inches. Due to the variable chamberings offered, magazine capacities differ between six and seventeen rounds total. The action is consistent across all types in the series, being of a short-recoil design with locked breech approach. Sighting devices are also highly variable between each in-family model.

As is the case with nearly any semi-automatic pistol released today, the M&P is offered in full-sized frame forms down to compact frame forms to suit customer requirements. Models in the series include the "Pro Series", the "Mid-Size", and the "Bodyguard 380".

Operators of the series range from Afghanistan National Security Forces and Australian police elements to the Royal Thai Army and several American police and parks forces.©MilitaryFactory.com
