As of January 2014, there are some ten major XD models which largely differ in dimensions and available caliber. Dimensions directly affect barrel lengths which allow the XD to span "super compact" and "compact" forms for concealed carry as well as full-length forms for specialist units and competition shooting. The family includes the XD Sub-Compact, the XD Compact, the XD Service, the XD Ported V-10, the XD Tactical, the XD-S, the XDM 3.8 Compact, the XDM 3.8, the XDM 4.5 and XDM 5.25 Competition (note how numbers indicate barrel length in the XDM line). Magazine capacities are directly related to chambering so they vary widely between the 5-round count of the XD-S (.45 ACP) and the high-capacity 19-round counts of the XDM 3.8 / XDM 4.5 / XDM 5.25 Competition (9x19mm Parabellum). Color options include black, olive, two-tone and dark earth.
The HS2000/Springfield XD has seen adoption by the militaries of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Dominican Republic, Indonesia, Macedonia, Malaysia and Thailand. Several global police forces have also taken stocks of the sidearm as in Croatia, Iraq and the United States. In the American civilian market, the Springfield XD is a well-traveled, well-liked semi-automatic offering.
