The McMillan TAC-416 is the latest McMillan rifle adopted into the TAC line. It is based on the proven workings of the preceding TAC-50 anti-material series firing the .50 BMG cartridge. However, the TAC-416 is specifically chambered for the .416 Barrett cartridge which promotes higher accuracy than the .50 BMG at ranges beyond 1,000 yards. Unlike the TAC-50 however - which makes use of a detachable box magazine - the TAC-416 is limited to single-shot firing and this through the same manually actuated bold-action function of the TAC-50. The TAC-416 is primarily marketed to military elements.

The TAC-416 is given a revised form of the TAC-50's stock (A1) that features an integral adjustable cheekpiece and two-way adjustable buttplate (optional) for maximum comfort. The stock is fitted aft of an ergonomic standalone pistol grip in the usual way. The bolt-action lever resides over the right side of the receiver in a conventional fashion. A large ejection port is clearly identified along the right side as well. The forend sports the requisite adjustable bipod assembly which aids in forward support of the weapon. Various finishes for the line are available including black and sand. The free-floating, hand-lapped barrel is a fluted Lilja match grade assembly available in a 29" Navy or 30" Light contour form - each with a threaded muzzle accepting a McMillan muzzle brake. As the TAC-416 lacks basic iron sights, a short length of Picatinny rail sits atop the receiver and accepts various optics. A night vision rail mount can also be fitted to the drilled and tapped sight base. The trigger is adjustable and set to 3.5lbs as standard. The TAC-416 lacks the newer recoil-reducing feature (R2 Recoil Mitigation System) of the refined TAC-50 A1-R2.
