The STG40 is a tactical-level, single-shot, Under-Barrel Grenade Launcher (UBGL) developed and marketed by SNT Motiv of South Korea. In both form and function, the design is similar to the American M203 UBGL with a focus on indirect / direct enemy suppression / dislodging at-range through the use of grenade projectiles. Like the M203 (and other designs like it), the STG40 relies on the 40x46mm NATO standard grenade cartridge which comes in several flavors.

The STG40 mounts underneath the forend / barrel section of a standard assault rifle / automatic rifle system supporting the MIL-1913 STD rail making it a near-universal solution for the modern Warfighter. The complete launcher unit weighs / adds 1.65 kilograms and operates through a manually-actuated pump-action system utilizing a ribbed slide set around a smooth launch tube. The system includes a rudimentary, near-vertical handgrip with integral trigger / trigger ring. Overall length reaches 382mm (15").

Due to incorporation of its own pistol grip / trigger unit, the STG40 UBGL can be operated independently of the actual assault rifle system or standalone weapon - further broadening the firepower available to the modern Warfighter. A break-action arrangement provides access to the firing chamber / launch tube for reloading.
