Debuting in 2021, the Kel-Tec P50 is a unique semi-automatic pistol addition to the company lineup of sidearms. The weapon is chambered for the 5.7x28mm cartridge (Belgian in origination), the same as featured in the Belgian Fabrique-Nationale (FN) P90 "Personal Defense Weapon" (PDW) detailed elsewhere on this site. Unloaded the weapon weighs just 3.2 lb and has an overall weight of 15 inches, the barrel itself measuring a compact 9.6 inches long. Overall width is 2 inches, giving this sidearm dimensions akin to a standard pistol, and the magazine holds an impressive 50 rounds.

The gun's unique appearance is attributed to the magazine and its horizontal placement inside the frame (as opposed to through the pistol grip or ahead of the action). In the same way that the FN P90 PDW operates by taking the next fresh cartridge form the spring-loaded magazine, rotating it 90 degrees, and inserting it into the chamber, so too does the Kel-Tec P-50 pistol (though loading upwards instead of downwards). The magazine also follows the Belgian design in having a translucent magazine construction showing the current available ammunition supply at a quick glance.

Beyond this, Picatinny rails are provided over and under the barrel section for the mounting of various tactical accessories. There is a long section over the frame and a shorter section under it, both set closer to the muzzle than the rear.

The pistol grip is angled rearwards for an ergonomic hold and coated with a special grip pattern. The trigger group sports an integral ring protecting the slim trigger and the trigger itself has a 5lb trigger pull rating. Safety controls are ambidextrous and easily reachable by the primary thumb. A straight blowback action is used in the internal firing process.
