The "Rexim-Favor" is a forgotten submachine gun (SMG) / machine pistol entry originating from Switzerland under the now-defunct Rexim Small Arms Company brand label. The company was formed during the 1950s in neutral Switzerland but relied on production facilities in Spain for its serial contract work. It managed an existence up until 1957 at which point the global market found little use for the company's wares - including the Favor SMG. Some marketing continued in Spain for a time longer, resulting in the same weapon reborn as the "La Coruna", but the doomed submachine gun found no global takers in this guise.

This submachine gun was given a conventional design arrangement with integrated pistol grip / trigger unit aft of the magazine well. The receiver was pressed and held the charging handle out over the right side of the frame. The ejection port was set along the same side as the charging handle, impacting left-handed shooters some. The shoulder stock was of wire design and could be removed for compactness. The barrel protruded a distance away from the bulk of the receiver and was capped by the forward sighting device. The straight, detachable box magazine - housing 20 stacked rounds - was copied from the successful German World War 2 MP40 SMG (indeed the Favor was chambered for the same, now-ubiquitous, German 9x19mm Parabellum pistol cartridge).

Production-quality Favors (FV Mark 4) differed from the original prototype only in having a perforated barrel jacket used for cooling the hot barrel. The barrel itself was of a quick-change design, allowing the operator to switch the assembly out for a cool replacement in short order. Firing from a blowback action with closed bolt, the weapon featured a fire rate of 600 rounds-per-minute and achieved a muzzle velocity of 1,300 feet-per-second. Weight was 7.1lb and overall length topped 32 inches with the barrel assembly measuring 10.7 inches long.

As it stands, the Favor was a well-constructed weapon of good quality and largely all-modern. However, its deficiencies lay in internal complexity of the firing action and overall weight worked against a weapon of this class - where ease-of-transportation was a sure selling point.

To that end, it appears that the nation of Turkey was the only foreign operator to see enough value in the submachine gun to operate it in notable numbers - these under the designation of "Model 68". The guns were in circulation up until the middle of the 1970s according to records.

Perhaps the Favor's greatest claim to fame is as the base design for the science fiction laser weapons used throughout the "Star Wars" movie saga, particularly the blasters regularly operated by Imperial Storm Troopers in various shoot-out scenes.
