With the ever-present threat of invasion from neighboring China, it behooves the Asia-Pacific island nation of Taiwan to present a capable, defensive-minded standing army. For this army is required the gamut of weapon types from armored vehicles and air support on down to the standard foot soldier. The T93 is an indigenously-developed bolt-action rifle taken into service for the dedicated sniper role, offering precision / accuracy over range against unsuspecting elements.

Design work on this long gun began in or around 2003 by the specialists at the 205th Armory and the rifle was debuted to the public in 2007.

The rifle is largely of conventional design arrangement, form, and function - mimicking such successful designs as the Remington M24 Sniper Weapon System (SWS) detailed elsewhere on this site. It is chambered for the ubiquitous 7.62x51mm NATO standard rifle cartridge, a proven man-stopper at range, and fires from a 5-round internal magazine. The action is a manually-actuated bolt system, requiring the operator to manage the bolt handle that is set over the right side of the receiver. The buttstock is adjustable and integrated to the curved pistol-type grip handle. The trigger is slung under the receiver and protected in a flat, thick ring. The opening allows for operation with a gloved hand.

The forend runs just over the midway point of the weapon. The full-length floating barrel is seated in the housing and extends some distance further. The receiver also has a section of Picatinny rail for the mounting of accessories, typically a telescopic sighting scope and/or night sighting device (interestingly no rail sections are fitted on the sides of the forend). A folding bipod is positioned under the end of the forend and can be collapsed for when on-the-march / in transport.

Effective range is out to 800 meters. The T93 has showcased both reliability and accuracy in its extensive testing phase before being taken into service by the Republic of China (Taiwan) Army and Marine Corps.
