To better keep pace with Western counterparts, local Chinese industry has developed the GAM-10X series Anti-Tank Guided-Missile (ATGM) system. The product is similar in appearance and battlefield role to the American FGM-148 "Javelin" (detailed elsewhere on this site) and can be used to defeat both enemy armor and fortified positions at range. The weapon can be used as a man-portable or vehicle-launched solution as needed.

The GAM-10X family currently consists of the "GAM-100" and "GAM-102". The former is a short-ranged model effective out to 2,735 yards while the latter medium-ranged offering can be used against targets out to 4,374 yards. The GAM-100 weighs in at 28.5 pounds and features a running length of 3.9 feet.

The missile sports an InfraRed (IR) seeker in its nose and is stabilized in flight by way of spring-loaded fins. Fins are located aft of the missile's midway point and at the tail. Once launched from its holding tube, the missile's fins automatically fold out and the projectile is guided to its target / target area by way of the IR imaging homing seeker. The operator can assign the missile a direct-attack or overhead-attack end-solution, enabling it to target the more vulnerable top faces of an enemy tank in the latter mode. The missile (GAM-100 version) can reach a rate of speed of 550 feet-per-second and penetration values reach 1,000 mm of armor thickness at range through reliance on a High-Explosive (HE) tandem charged warhead.

A complete GAM-10X system is comprised of the missile, launch tube, and integrated control system/sighting device. The front and rear ends of the tube are padded as is the shoulder support area. A shoulder strap aids in transport of the weapon on the back of the operator. The tube is reusable after firing.

Like other weapons of this sort, the GAM-10X weapon system can be used as a man-portable, shoulder-launched solution, capable of being fired from enclosed spaces - the operator able to fire out of an open window. Beyond this, it is featured as a vehicle-mounted solution and showcased on various Chinese Infantry Fighting Vehicles (IFVs) where a large stock of the missiles can be stowed aboard. The system can also be fired from a heavy-duty tripod frame as a static defense / assault weapon.
