The HP9-1 is a sport-minded pump-action slide shotgun developed by Chinese industry. It appears to follow, rather closely, the form-and-function of the popular ages-old American Remington M870 pump-action series (detailed elsewhere on this site) complete with a pistol-grip at the rear, optional foregrip attached to the slide, and rectangular receiver with largely exposed barrel assembly. The HP9-1 is a product of Chinese defense industry powerhouse NORINCO ("China NOrth INdustries COrporation") and is also marketed under the names of "Hawk 982" and "Interstate Hawk 982"..

Overall length of the shotgun reaches 34.5 inches with the basic barrel measuring a compact 14 inches installed. An 18" barrel assembly has also been made available. As with other pump-action shotgun forms, this firearm feeds from a manually-actuated pump-action system in which the shells are pulled from a cylindrical magazine running under the barrel. Each movement of the slide introduces a fresh 12-guage shell into the chamber while, at the same time, clearing out any spent shell casings. The tube magazine holds four shells and one shell can be chambered for a total of five.

Sighting of the weapon is through a ghost ring / bead type forward arrangement. The stock if fabricated of synthetics and the barrel finished to a "parkerized" rust-resistant quality.
