The Accuracy International AX rifle series is a family of tactical weapons that currently (2018) encompasses the "AX308" and the "AXMC". The AX308 is chambered in .308 Winchester while the AXMC fires the .338 Lapua Magnum cartridge but can be reconfigured to fire both the .300 Winchester Magnum or .308 Winchester round. This requires proper modification of the barrel, bolt, and magazine well. The "AX50" is another AX model marketed by Accuracy International and fires the massive .50 BMG machine gun cartridge - suitable for anti-armor/fortification/personnel work.

The AX rifle sports conventional design arrangement but is a completely modern battlefield weapon through-and-through. There is a double-chambered muzzle brake at the business end of the gun for recoil dampening and this is fitted as standard. A suppressor can be added to the rifle for clandestine work through a tactical threaded version of the same brake assembly. The heavily-perforated, octagonal forend shroud has a built-in quick-release feature and is readily designed to accept accessory rail mounting points supporting tactical accessories such as a folding bipod and sling attachment. This assembly supports all standard STANAG 4694/MIL-STD-1913 rail sections and these can be mounted to the perforations found along the length of the patented "KeySlot" forend system. Over the weapon is a full-length section of Picatinny rail, made to a heavy-duty, corrosion-resistant aluminum standard, and this area seats various scopes and sighting devices to include NightVision (NV) and thermal imagers. Multiple sling points are present and these are of a flush and quick-detach nature.

The barrel assembly has also been given a quick-change capability and its tool is housed in the cheekpiece unit (a 4mm hex key). Break down of the weapon is useful in transportation of this rather lengthy gun - particularly when long marches are in order. The cheekpiece itself is adjustable in height and its lateral position to better serve the shooter. The buttpad has also been given an adjustable quality which can change its height and angle. The shoulder stock is hinged to fold over the right side of the receiver,, over the exposed bolt handle, shortening the rifle by some 10 inches for improved transport.

The weapon feeds from a basic ten-round detachable box magazine fitted ahead of the trigger group. This component has a double-stacked, spring-loaded cartridge layout and is constructed of corrosion-resistant steel for inherent reliability in-the-field under combat conditions and general military abuse.

The trigger unit is a two-stage design with an adjustable shoe component for customization of the action. A three-position safety mechanism is in play to help ensure maximum protection for the operator and his nearby comrades. The pistol grip arrives in an ergonomic form but is also easily and quickly configurable with after-market pistol grip accessories.

Overall base weight of the weapon (with a 27" long barrel installed) is a manageable 15 pounds. Exterior finishes currently (2018) include Dark Earth, Green, Pale Brown, Elite Sand, and Elite Midnight.
