HISTORY

Detailing the development and operational history of the Beretta Cx4 Storm Semi-Automatic Tactical Carbine.  Entry last updated on 10/14/2018. Authored by Staff Writer. Content ©www.MilitaryFactory.com.
Based on the long-established foundations set by a never-ending line of excellent Beretta pistols is the Beretta Cx4 "Storm", a tactical carbine civilian market product based on the military-minded Mx4 Storm series. The weapon bridges the product gap between the famous Beretta 92 pistol and the Beretta ARX-100 series tactical rifle line, the latter new to the new millennium. Beyond its use as a sporting and hunting gun, the compact and lightweight Cx4 has also been adopted by some American police forces.

The Cx4 boasts low-recoil performance through a proven Beretta Single-Action, blowback system and can be made to accept existing, full-size Beretta magazines from various series by way of an optional adapter. The base model is chambered for the ubiquitous 9x19mm pistol cartridge though a .40 S&W chambering has also been made available. The standard, cold-hammer forged barrel measures a length of 422.5mm with an overall gun length of 755mm while the weapon's unloaded weight is listed at 90.8 oz. The cold-hammer forged process provides an added element of accuracy in shooting and lengthens the barrel life over the course of subsequent firing exercises - it is a proven firearms process perfected over decades since its introduction. The Cx4's design is also made to be ambidextrous after some slight changes to its makeup - the charging handle, safety lever, magazine release, and ejection port are all reversible to favor either left- or right-handed shooters. The forward and rear sights are adjustable to suit user need as well.

The Cx4 features lightweight, though robust, body construction housing the required internal working components. The barrel extends just a short distance away from the body and the fore-end is contoured smoothly into the overall design, expanding down to form the frontal support of the trigger loop. The pistol grip is of an ergonomic design approach with a thick trigger ring featured. Function levers along the sides of the receiver are large and easy to use and reach regardless of primary operating hand. Sling loops are added for use of a shoulder strap. The shoulder stock is padded for comfort when pressed up against the shoulder.

As with other modern firearms, the Cx4 boasts customizability through support of accessory rails. A full-length section is featured along the top of the gun between the fore and aft sights as standard and supports the mounting of optical accessories or laser aimers. A retractable section of Picatinny rail near the fore-end provides an additional mounting surface for installation of tactical lights and the like. Additional rails can be added to the sides of the fore-end. Beretta offers an entire line of Cx4-related accessories to suit even the most discerning shooter - from extended magazines to soft or hard travel cases and stock spacers to a Beretta logo vertical foregrip.

Beretta currently markets four distinct Cx4 Storm forms: the .40 S&W Px4 series model chambers fourteen rounds while the 9mm Px4 series model chambers seventeen rounds. The 92 series encompasses two 9mm forms with either a 10- and 15-round magazine capacity.

Other chamberings have also been mentioned in regards to the Cx4 - these include 9x21mm IMI and .45 ACP. Magazine counts, therefore, can vary from 8-round boxes to 30-round boxes.

The Albany County Sheriff's Department of New York is a recognized operator of the Cx4 (in .40 S&W chambering). Nearly 2,000 of the type were ordered by the Libyan government prior to the 2011 Civil War so the status of their delivery is unknown at this time. Venezuelan National Guard commandos have been issued the type.
