The MACS M2 is a locally-designed and developed Croatian anti-material rifle. The system is chambered for the effective .50 BMG ("Browning Machine Gun") cartridge firing from a single-shot, bolt-action arrangement. As an anti-material sniping weapon, the MACS M2 can engage light enemy armor and fortified targets at range, delivering disastrous results with its powerful cartridge. Such weapons can be used to target particularly vulnerable components of an enemy vehicle - even frontline combat tanks to a certain extent.
The MACS M2 is given a half-stock coupled to a skeletal butt and features a frontal bipod support as standard. It sports a traditional pistol grip under the receiver while the gun's body mimics that of a conventional sporting rifle. Lacking iron sights, the MACS M2 is granted use of a standard 10x42 telescopic sight over the receiver. RH-ALAN of Zagreb produces the rifle.
The M2 features a running length of 58 inches with a smoothbore barrel measuring 31 inches long. Unloaded, it weighs 27lbs. As a single-shot weapon, it lacks a magazine feed and its related complexities and maintenance. The operator is required to load individual cartridges into the breech with each shot. Muzzle velocity is rated at 2,800 feet per second. Recoil is aided through use of a large muzzle brake.
The MACS M3 is a related M2 form though configured for the growing-in-popularity "bullpup" arrangement in which the feed is now seated aft of the pistol grip as part of the stock - making for a slightly more compact form. The M3 is detailed elsewhere on this site.
