The Colt LE901 line is geared towards the medium/large game enthusiast and features a semi-automatic action chambered for the .308 Winchester cartridge. The firearm is all-modern with polymer and metal construction, ambidextrous control features and iron forward and rear sights. The LE901 is based on the tried-and-true AR-15 series through a single-piece upper receiver and features a full floating barrel assembly (not forward portions of the weapon touch the barrel as seated into the receiver. Adjustable flip-up sights are set over the backup iron components. The barrel is capped by a slotted flash hider and a bayonet lug is positioned under the barrel as standard. Sections of rail are featured along the sides, top and underside of the handguard with the upper section continuing over the receiver. The M4-style shoulder stock is collapsible for a more compact profile - bringing down the base 37.5" length to 34.24". Overall weight is 9.4lbs.

The LE901 is completed in a strong flat black matte finish. Receiver controls include a safety lever, magazine release and bolt catch facility. The magazine is of a 30-round count and curved in the traditional M16 style fashion. As with other AR-15 rifles, the LE901 is built upon a direct gas system fitted overt the barrel assembly while utilizing a locking bolt mechanism in its action. The standard barrel measures in at 16.1 inches and is chrome-lined for longevity sporting a 4 groove bore with right-hand twist.
