OBR SM Tarnow produces the "Bor" rifle for the Polish Army (the only other known operator being Nigeria). Also known as the "Alex" after its designer, Alexsander Lezucha, design work on the type began after Polish membership into NATO was approved (March 1999). To better fall in line with its NATO brethren logistically, the Polish Army went looking for a new, all-modern, indiegnous NATO-caliber bolt-action sniper rifle system. The rifle began testing in 2005 and was publically debuted that September with limited serial production following in 2006. Testing continued into 2007 and batch orders have continued to trickle in since.

At its core, the rifle is a conventional full-power sniper system intended for military service. A manually-actuated bolt-action system is at the heart of the action while a bull-pup configuration is used to keep the overall length of the gun in check. This means that the feed and action are both set behind the pistol grip and trigger unit. The grip-trigger are seated closer to the center point of the rifle providing for better balance and handling - all the while retaining the capabilities of a full-length rifle barrel. Optics are set over the receiver in the usual way and this made possible by a section of rail. A folding, adjustable bipod is featured under the midway point of the barrel. To help achieve considerable accuracy, the barrel is of a "free-floating" design, not touching the stock at any one point - instead connecting directly to the receiver. At the rear of the weapon are an adjustable cheekpiece and shoulder pad for some operator comfort. The weapon weighs around 13.45lb and has an overall length of 40.9 inches. The barrel, available in two distinct versions, measures 22 or 26.8 inches depending on installation used. Both day and night optics sets can be fitted as needed.

Available chamberings include 7.62x51mm NATO, .338 Lapua Magnum, and .308 Winchester.

Performance of the rifle sees an effective range out to 875 yards depending on cartridge in play and a muzzle velocity of 2,855 feet-per-second (again, depending on cartridge/chambering).

The Alex-338 was the name given to a related prototype rifle which appeared in 2007 and was chambered for the .338 Lapua Magnum cartridge. Work on the design continued throughout 2008 and the product was publically debuted in September of that year. A five-round box magazine (detachable, taken from the Finnish Sako TRG-42 series) was selected to feed the .338 cartridges into the action.

Another offshoot of the Bor rifle family, the Alex Tactical Sport 308 Winchester, has been chambered for the .308 Winchester rifle cartridge to better market it to civilian and police/security circles. Based in the Polish Army's 7.62x51mm version, the sporting-minded model has simplified internals with feeding through a ten-round detachable box magazine. This version was debuted in March of 2013.
