The P320 series semi-automatic pistol was developed with law enforcement in mind and thusly showcases several prominent safety features that allow for no-snag quick access delivery and customizability. Polymers reduce overall eight and four major models are marketed: the P320 Full, the P320 Carry, the P320 Compact and the P320 Subcompact, each available in the usual handgun chamberings and each dimensionally different to fulfill market category requirements (e.g. concealed-carry and the like). The gun is designed in such a way as to be converted from full-sized model to carry with a few modifications.

The pistol was introduced in 2014 and is recognized for the usual SIG-Sauer quality and reliability.

The grip frame is modular and the fire control assembly removable for customization on the part of the shooter. The magazine release is reversible to serve left- or right-handed shooters equally. Routine maintenance is eased by a tool-less take-down feature. The base frame can be converted to the usual handgun chamberings - 9x19mm, .40 S&W, .357SIG and .45ACP - by slide-and-barrel modification kits. The internal striker is pre-tensioned and the trigger given a nice short pull and reset feature. Two trigger variants are available - standard and tabbed-safety (law enforcement only). There is no external safety present (to remove the prospect of snagging when the weapon is drawn). Instead, an internal safety system is in play (a thumb safety is seen in law enforcement models). Additional standard options include base iron or night sights. Serrations for slide management are found on the front and rear of the weapon and a section of Picatinny rail under the muzzle allows for the mounting of aimers or tactical flashlights.

The P320 is used by a plethora of U.S. law enforcement agencies at the local and state level. Royal Thai Police have also committed to the type.

Introduced in 2017 is the P320 X-Series. The group includes the X-Five, the X-Carry and the X-VTAC. X-Five comes in 9mm and .40 S&W chamberings while utilizing a 5" barrel length. A fiber optic sight is fitted to the front. The X-Carry is a concealed carry version and features a 3.9" barrel length. Chambering is in 9mm and magazines hold up to 17 rounds. The X-VTAC is a 9mm form with stainless slide. There is support for day and night optics and magazines hold 17 rounds. The X-VTAC was designed by Kyle Lamb of Viking Tactics.
