The Steregushchiy-class guided-missile corvette warships of the modern Russian Navy currently (2018) number five active vessels though some twenty-four total ships are planned to the design standard (six are currently under construction with seven having been completed). The class represents an all-modern, "stealth-centric" missile-armed corvette for the service and will be well-represented within the inventory of the Russian Navy for the foreseeable future. The class was used to succeed the Grisha-class ships of the 1970s-1990s and has, itself, been succeeded by the Gremyashchiy-class - an advanced, direct offshoot of the Steregushchiy-class.
One of its number is Soobraziteinyy (531) which became the second ship of the class. She was laid down by Severnaya Verf on May 20th, 2003 and launched on March 31st, 2010. The warship was formally commissioned for service into the Russian Navy fleet on October 14th, 2011.
Soobrazitelnyy is of all-modern appearance with a slab-sided superstructure whose lines are seamlessly integrated into the hull proper. Protrusions are kept to a minimum and the warship has a generally low-profile complete with an integrated smoke funnel which is buried in the superstructure. The bridge is positioned at the extreme forward face of the superstructure with a commanding view of the action ahead and the primary (main) mast is enclosed. A secondary mast is fitted further aft and is left relatively clean of protrusions. The aft-hull superstructure section is stepped leading down to a single-helicopter heli-pad.
As built, the warship has a running length of 343 feet with a beam of 36 feet and a draught of 12 feet. Displacement reaches 2,100 tons under full load.
Her propulsion scheme is of COmbined Diesel-And-Diesel (CODAD) arrangement which sees 4 x 16D49 series diesel units outputting 24,000 combined horsepower to accomplish general cruising and dash actions. This system drives a twin-shaft arrangement under stern and propels the ship to speeds of 27 knots out to a range of 4,000 nautical miles.
Aboard is a crew of about 100 personnel with onboard stores capable of allowing the ship to remain at-sea for up to fifteen days before requiring a resupply. A "Furke-E" system serves as the vessel's primary air-search radar component and a TK-25E-5 unit is the vessel's Electronic Warfare (EW) fit. 4 x PK-10 decoy launchers are carried for defensive purposes.
