CNS Zhangjiakou (605) is a fighting corvette warship in service with the modern People's Liberation Army Navy (PLAN) of China. The vessel serves with the North Sea Fleet as of this writing (2022) and was commissioned in 2020 alongside a plethora of other hulls of the 1,500-ton class. The class is the Type 056A (with a focus on Anti-Submarine Warfare) - known to NATO as the Jiangdao-class - which succeeded an aging line of Type 037 corvettes in same function. All 72 hulls planned have been completed, with construction having taken place from 2012 into 2021. Commissioned service began in 2013.
While utilized as corvettes in the PLAN ranks, the vessels are more akin to light frigates by Western standards. They have a running length of 300 feet, a beam of 36.5 feet and a draught of 13 feet. Power is from a twin SEMT Pielstick PA6-STC diesel arrangement driving the warships to speeds of 25 knots out to a range of 3,500 nautical miles.
Aboard is a complement of seventy-eight. The ships carry Type 360 air-surface search radar with Type 347G satisfying Fire Control actions. A bow and towed sonar array are carried for submarine-hunting.
Armament includes a 76mm turreted deck gun, 2 x 30mm H/PJ-17 Close-In Weapon Systems (CIWSs), 2 x Twin-cell YJ-83 anti-ship missile launchers, and 1 x 8-cell FL-3000N Surface-to-Air Missile (SAM) launcher. As the ship's focus is on ASW sorties, 2 x 324mm triple-torpedo tube launchers are also carried.
Over the stern is served a single Harbin Z-9 medium-lift, navalized helicopter for Over-the-Horizon (OtH) work.
