CNS Linyi (547) is a guided-missile frigate serving the modern People's Liberation Army Navy (PLAN) of China. The vessel belongs to the powerful Type 054A ("Jiangkai II") class of surface combatant which is made up of twenty-eight total warships in the series. Linyi represents the seventh named boat in the class.

The Type 054A warships are detailed as "multi-mission" surface vessels, an evolution of Chinese surface capabilities that once centered largely on one-dimensional types leftover from the Soviet period. This has helped to put the PLAN on equal, or near-equal, footing with potential adversaries in the West, namely the United States Navy. Stealth is featured heavily in these new-generation warships for China which, in turn, figure to provide much-needed deterrence capabilities for the rising power in the East.

The warship sports modern, clean design lines with a raised bow featuring little obstructions save for the turreted deck gun. Aft of this is a missile bay housing ready-to-fire surface-to-air or surface-to-surface missiles in Vertical Launch Systems (VLSs). Slab=sides detail the bulk of the hull superstructure that houses the bridge section forward and a combination helipad/hangar facility at the stern. The forward section of the superstructure showcases an enclosed mast as well as radar, communications, and sensor fittings. There is a line break between the forward and mid-section of the hull superstructure. The smoke funnel, of enclosed, low-profile design, integrated the aft-mast and its radome structure.

The warship can support one Kamov Ka-28 "Helix" or Harbin Z-9C "Haitun" navy helicopter equipped for the Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) role. Beyond this, the helicopters can be used in Search and Rescue (SAR) sorties, for humanitarian assistance, and as eyes Over-the-Horizon (OTH) when needed. A small air arm contingent aboard the vessel supports this modest, yet potent, airborne fleet.

Armament is a mix of ballistic/projectile and missile based not to mention electronic warfare. The turreted deck gun is a 76mm caliber unit of Dual-Purpose function. A 32-cell missile VLS is featured that can be used to attack air and sea/land-based targets. Additional weapons provide Close-In and Extreme-Close-In defense against aerial threats and suicidal gun boats. Submarine threats are tackled through Anti-Submarine ROCket (ASROC) launchers featuring 36 reloads. The warship completes her armament fit with 2 x Quadruple launchers supporting the C-803 anti-ship / land-attack cruise missile.

The frigate displaces up to 4,500 tons under full load and measures 440 feet long with a beam of 52 feet. A COmbined-Diesel-And-Diesel (CODAD) propulsion scheme is employed that allows the vessel to reach speeds of 27 knots out to a range of 8,025 nautical miles while optimizing fuel efficiency. The onboard crew complement is 165 personnel. Type 344, Type 345, and Type 382 radar are carried for various tasks including fire control and search-and-tracking. The H/SJG-206 serves as the towed sonar array while the MGK-335 is the medium frequency active/passive sonar fit in the bow.
