    Ribbon Colors: black; white; red


    Description (Ribbon):

    Striped ribbon in order red-white-black-white-black-white-black-white-red.


    Description (Medal):

    Rounded bronze form; scene depicts spread eagle encircled by barbed wire and bayonet points. Reverse side has upper text reading "AWARDED TO" while center of medal reads "FOR HONORABLE SERVICE WHILE A PRISONER OF WAR". Above the latter text is a space for engraving recipient's name. Under the text is the U.S. Coat of Arms. Bordering the bottom edge of the medal is the text "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA".
