Description (Ribbon):
Thin green stripe to red-black-white stripes of equal width; center had red-to-white-to-blue-to-white-to-red stripes of thin width; concluding with white-black-to-red stipes of equal width and then the final thinner green stipe at the end.
Description (Medal):
Circular bronze medal; depicts Afghanistan mountain range with outline of Afghanistan territory just above; ringed with the text "Afghanistan Campaign" REVERSE: Eagle's head with half-run behind, radiating rays; edges were ringed in wreath; test appearing says "For Service in Afghanistan".
Award Criteria:
Given to soldiers deployed in direct support of Operation Enduring Freedom following the September 11th, 2001 terrorist attacks on America; may be awarded posthumously if the soldier in question died while participating in qualifying actions.
