The Kalyani M4 is a versatile armored Mine-Resistant, Ambush-Protected (MRAP) military / security vehicle designed and developed under the Kalyani Strategic Systems Ltd brand label of India (it is serially manufactured by Bharat Forge). The Indian Army currently fields a stock of about 45 or so M4 vehicles with more on order. The vehicle forms a critical portion of the modernizing Indian Army which has an emerging focus on mobility and versatility.

This armored truck showcases a traditional 4x4 all-wheel arrangement with the powerpack in the bow and the driver seated at front-left in the cabin. Its weight reaches 16,000kg and dimensions include a running length of 5.8 meters with a beam of 2.6 meters and a height of 2.45 meters. Dimensions are such that the vehicle can be air-transported in the hold of a IL-76 strategic hauler or similar.

There is a standard operating crew of two with room for up to eight additional occupants.

Internally, the vehicle is driven by a turbo-diesel engine unit of 465 horsepower mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission propelling it to road speeds of 140kmh out to a range of 800 kilometers. Power steering is granted to the front axle / wheel pair. The chassis is suspended atop a Bilstein Heavy Duty Suspension system and the large roadwheels are given a run-flat quality. Key systems include a Central Tire Inflation System (CTIS), Battle Management System (BMS), powered winch and CBRN protection kit. Armor protection levels reach STANAG Level III.

The truck can mount various weapons / weapon systems in addition to those personal weapons carried by the crew. This includes a 20mm automatic cannon and the "Spike" Anti-Tank Guided-Missile (ATGM) launcher.
