The Katmerciler HIZIR is an all-modern 4x4 wheeled tactical armored vehicle in the Mine-Resistant, Ambush-Protected (MRAP) category. It is primarily utilized in number by the fighting forces of Turkiye (Turkey). The vehicle was designed by Katmerciler Aselsan of Turkey and is in current production under the brand. The type has been taken into service with Turkish Land Forces as well as Kenya, Uganda, Uruguay, and Gambia. Due to its inherently versatile design, the vehicle can be utilized in a variety of battlefield roles.

The 17.6-ton HIZIR makes use of a proven, fully-suspended (shock absorbers with coil springs) 4x4 all-wheel arrangement. Roadwheels are large and add to the strong ground clearance qualities of the truck. The driver sits at front-left with the engine compartment ahead and passenger seating to his right and rear. Thick bullet-resistant windows are provided as are firing ports to engage outside elements from within the safety of the vehicle. Entry-exit is through hinged, automobile-style doors (two or four depending on variant) found along the sides of the hull and a single door is featured at the rear. Over the roof line can be affixed a variety of anti-infantry solutions including machine-gun-armed Remote Weapon Stations (RWSs). A spare wheel is situated over the rear hull face.

Dimensions include a running length of 5.57 meters with a beam of 2.49 meters and a height of 2.6 meters.

Beyond the driver, the base design can haul up to seven additional passengers in relative comfort and safety. This typically includes a vehicle commander.

Under the hood is an American Cummins ISL 8.9 liter inline 6-cylinder turbocharged intercooled diesel-fueled engine offering 400 horsepower output (Euro-3 emission level). This component is mated to an American Allison 3000 Series six-speed (6 forward, 1 reverse) automatic transmission system. The drive system is fully-assisted and sports a tiltable, telescoping steering wheel for the driver. Maximum road speeds reach 120 kmh and range is out to 700 kilometers. The HIZIR is capable of traversing 70% grades.

The truck is designed to survive in both urban and rural settings with inherent qualities to protect against complete destruction of vehicle and crew from land mines, Improved Explosive Devices (IEDs), artillery spray, and conventional small-caliber ballistics. The hull is built atop a V-type monocoque hull to help deflect incoming blasts originating from under the vehicle. Cage armor can be added to the various window panels for added security against rocket and grenade attacks. Optional smoke grenade launchers are seated along the sides of the hull roof line.

Marketed variants in the series include the base HIZIR MRAP, the HIZIR II, and the ATES armored border security vehicle. The HIZIR II incorporates seating for up to fourteen in a face-to-face configuration, seats its spare tire under the hull, features a single-piece windshield, a rear entry-exit ramp, and has an enhanced operating range. The ATES is geared more towards reconnaissance, scouting, and general observation while retaining all of the excellent qualities of the original design.

Katmerciler has a growing stable of defense industrial vehicles available to fulfill most any military, security, civilian, or law enforcement role.
