The "Scarabee" is a light-class High-Mobility Tactical Vehicle (HMTV) offered by ARQUUS Defense Mobility Systems of France. The vehicle is intended for fast reconnaissance, convoy support, general patrolling, and Special Operations (SPECOPS) work. It is billed by the company as the first of its kind to be of hybrid drive arrangement, able to run exclusively on electric power when needed to reduce both acoustic and thermal signatures in contested zones.

The car is arranged in a conventional fashion though the powerpack resides in the rear of the hull: the operating crew sits side-by-side in the passenger compartment. The roadwheels are oversized and spaced at the extreme corners of the chassis, offering the perfect blend of balance and ground clearance. The vehicle is equally-capable of offroad traversal as well as onroad. Vision ports are bullet resistance against small arms fire. Headlamps are embedded at the front corners of the frame. For entry-exit, the doors along the side of the hull slide rearwards as opposed to swinging outwards.

The Scarabee has a gross weight of 8 tons, houses a crew of four total personnel, and relies on a proven 4x4 all-wheeled configuration. Maximum road speed is 130 kmh on paved surfaces.

Due to its light armoring, the vehicle is not intended for direct-contact, prolonged firefights but instead as a fast-attack, fast-reconnaissance platform able to mount a variety of infantry-level weapon solutions over the hull roof. This includes 7.62mm and 12.7mm machine gun types as well as 40mm Automatic Grenade Launchers (AGLs) mounted in a 360-degree traversing Remote Weapon Station (RWS) complete with electronically-discharged smoke grenade canisters to screen the vehicle from prying eyes.

Scarabee belongs to a complete line of military and security minded vehicles championed by ARQUUS including the Sabre, Patsas, and VAN MK 3 all-wheeled models.©MilitaryFactory.com
