The HDS "Tigon" is a 6x6 wheeled Armored Personnel Carrier (APC) jointly-developed between Hanwha Defense Systems of South Korea and AVP Engineering of Malaysia to satisfy a Malaysian Army requirement. The Tigon was unveiled in the early part of 2018 with trials following (on Malaysian soil) later that year and represents another interesting global entry into the crowded wheeled fighting vehicle market.

All-welded steel is used in the construction of the vehicle's hull which can protect against small arms fire and artillery "spray" while bolt-on armor blocks are supported for augmented protection, particularly against Rocket-Propelled Grenade (RPGs), mines, and Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) in contested areas. A 6x6 wheeled configuration is used to maximum road and off-road travel speeds and this is aided some by large-diameter road wheels and a double wishbone suspension system. The forward two axles are notably well-spaced from the single rear installation. The hull utilizes slab-sides with a flattened roof line and a shallow, sloped glacis plate at the bow. A Remote Weapon Station (RWS) can be seated over the hull armed through a 7.62mm General Purpose Machine Gun (GPMG). Water jets are fitted to the lower sides of the hull rear, allowing the vehicle to traverse water sources under its own power - where speeds reach 8.5 kmh.

Internally, there is a standard operating crew of three - driver, commander, and gunner - typical for a vehicle of this type. Up to eight combat-ready infantry can be carried under protection and have access to blast-resistant seats. Vision blocks for the three crewmen allow for vision out-of-the-vehicle when in a "buttoned down" state. Mission systems are tracked in real time through full-color displays ad readouts. A central tire pressure systems is provided for adjustments by the driver "on-the-fly" depending on terrain to be traversed.

Power is from an American Caterpillar-brand 6-cylinder turbocharged diesel-fueled unit of 525 horsepower mated to an American Allison 4500SP series electronically-controlled automatic transmission system. The gearbox affords six forward speeds and a single reverse speed. All told, the APC has a road speed of up to 100 kmh with an operational range reaching 1,000 kilometers.©MilitaryFactory.com
