in 2013, the Singaporean Army introduced the Spider (New Generation) Light Strike Vehicle Mk II (LSV Mk II) as a successor to the earlier Light Strike Vehicle Mk I of 1998. As its name suggests, the Light Strike Vehicle is intended for fast-attack, hit-and-run tactics for regular Army and special-mission-minded forces with a focus on defeating armored threats at range. The vehicles are produced by local defense powerhouse ST Kinetics and are air-transportable under the belly of a medium-lift transport helicopter or in the hold of a medium-class, fixed-wing transport aircraft.

The Mk II weighs nearly 4,000lb and showcases a length of 16 feet, a width of 6.9 feet and a height of 5.10 feet. The operating crew is typically two with space for an additional four support personnel. Drive power is through a single PSA DW10B series 4-cylidner turbocharged diesel engine outputting 136 horsepower. The engine is mated to a four-speed automatic transmission system. The driver sits at front-center with passenger seating to his left and right as well as behind. Road speeds reach nearly 70 miles per hour.

The Spider is equipped with a roll bar / crew "cage" system for enhanced crew survivability in the event of a rollover. Its crewspace is open-air, generally, offering excellent views of the surrounding terrain. The wheels are well-spaced for strong balance characteristics and are suspended for excellent cross-country travel qualities. The chassis is elevated for ground clearance as well.

The placement of the driver at front-center allows the left and right forward passenger positions to be outfitted with 7.62mm General Purpose Machine Guns. The vehicle also sports a trainable mounting over the roof which can fit anti-armor (the Israeli SPIKE Anti-Tank Guided Missile) or anti-personnel weapons (such as a 40mm Automatic Grenade Launcher). Onboard storage also allows man-portable anti-armor weapons (such as the Javelin) to be carried into battle.

The Spider Mk II has been developed into three distinct production forms including a general, base model for multirole use, an anti-personnel model with 40mm AGL and the anti-armor model with the Raphael SPIKE ATGM system installed (Mantis support system).
