Aviation | Cold War | Jet-vs-Jet

The 'Forgotten War' introduced some of the more classic fighting aircraft of aviation history and was witness to the first-ever Jet-versus-Jet duels.

Fresh off the heels of World War II arrived the Korean War of 1950-1953 when elements of North Korea - backed by the Soviet Union and China - invaded Western-aligned South Korea to begin the new conflict. The war saw battlefield solutions of the Second World War remain in play - including T-34 and Sherman tanks - while introducing the jet-powered aircraft as a mainstay of future conflicts. The first jet-versus-jet duels were recorded in the war. The North American F-86 Sabre became the thoroughbred of the Allies against the Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-15 of the North Koreans, Soviets, and Chinese. While the war technically never officially ended, an armistice was signed between parties on July 27th, 1953 to cease current hostilities.
