Iranian aero-industry has, for decades, been attempting to fulfill local requirements for the Iranian service branches. This has resulted in various initiatives of which some have succeeded and others more or less failed. The HESA Dorna ("Crane") is one aircraft whose verdict is still out - only a handful have been produced since introduction was seen in 2006. It was unveiled for public consumption back in 1999.

The Dorna was developed along the lines of a two-seat, jet-powered advanced trainer for the Islamic Republic of Iran Air Force (IRIAF). It has been given a rather conventional form including split air intakes (along the fuselage sides), a swept-back wing mainplane, and tandem-seat cockpit overlooking the sloped nosecone. A single vertical fin is seated at the tail and horizontal planes are seen near its base. The undercarriage is retractable and consists of three single-wheeled legs.©MilitaryFactory.com
