Drones are the current buzz word in today's military lexicon, though the group is more correctly detailed as "Unmanned Aerial Vehicles" (UAVs). Uvision of Israel produces a line of loitering UAVs consisting of the HERO 30, HERO 70 and HERO 120, the collection differing in size as well as over-battlefield capabilities though all centering on short-ranged anti-personnel or anti-tank sorties.

The HERO 120 represents the largest of the group, weighing 12.5 kilograms and carrying a warhead of 3.5 kilograms. Range is out to 40 kilometers and the vehicle holds a mission endurance window of about 60 minutes. An electric motor is used to drive the two-bladed propeller seated at the back of the tubular fuselage. The wing mainplanes and tailplanes are hinged to fold against the fuselage for storage and transport.

A transport / launch canister is used during the activation process and this component is fitted with a bipod support structure. The UAV can therefore be launched from the ground after it has been readied by its operator. Otherwise, the canister doubles as the transport case and sits on the back of an infantryman until needed.©MilitaryFactory.com
