The CH-92 is a fixed-wing Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS) originating from China and developed by Chinese Aerospace Science & Technology (CASC). As U.S. drone technology remains quite restrictive on the global selling front, and the Chinese reach into Europe is limited, the country has looked to buyers across Africa, the Middle East, and Eastern Europe with some success. The CH-92 is just one UAS in a long line of drone produced by CASC that includes CH-1 through CH-10 and additional offerings in the CH-91, CH-802, CH-803, and CH-901.
The CH-92 was originally developed to fulfill general Intelligence-Surveillance-Reconnaissance (ISR) roles and artillery-spotting but has since been featured sporting two underwing hardpoints and supporting precision-guided / air-launched weapons. Operational range is out to 155 miles with an operating ceiling near 16,000 feet.
The aircraft showcases a conventional design arrange for a low-to-medium altitude UAS. The mainplanes are straight in their general shape and shoulder-mounted along the sides of the fuselage. The fuselage itself is well-streamlined and houses pertinent operational systems, fuel stores, and the powerplant. The powerplant consists of a conventional engine seated at the rear of the airframe driving a multi-bladed propeller unit in "pusher" configuration. Twin booms emerge from under and aft of the mainplanes and are joined by a shared horizontal plane. This structure is straddled by a pair of vertical planes. The undercarriage consists of a fixed, wheeled tricycle arrangement for ground-running. An optics / sensor turret is positioned at the "chin" of the airframe in the usual way.
At least six operational examples have been delivered to the Serbian Air Force ad Air Defence service (CH-92A models) during July of 2020, these along with some eighteen missiles - part of a major military rearmament / modernization program currently being undertaken by the country. This marks Serbia as the first Balkans power to have UAS attack capabilities.
July 2020 - Serbia officials have revealed their new fleet of UAVs consisting of Chinese CH-92A drones which can be utilized for the ISR role or armed through precision-guided weapons (namely the FT-8 missile).
