Embraer of Brazil produces the Legacy/Praetor series mid-sized, twin-engined business jets. The aircraft come complete with all-modern Fly-by-Wire (FbW) controlling and high-end appointments to satisfy even the most discerning of clientele. The series includes the Legacy 450/500 (EMB-545/EMB-550) and Praetor 500/600 series models of which over 100 total examples have been built since service introduction began in October of 2014.

The aircraft has low-mounted, swept-back wing mainplanes, each capped with winglets for fuel-savings and added control. The wings sit near midships. The flightdeck takes its usual place over the nose which has a sharply-sloped (and short) nosecone assembly offering excellent vision out-of-the-cockpit. The two crewmembers sit side-by-side and enjoy an all-modern workspace complete with four full-color touchscreen displays, shared center console (with throttle controls), and side-stick controls. The fuselage is dotted with rounded rectangular windows for passenger viewing. The internal make-up of the passenger section is as extravagant as the budget allows, with face-to-face and bench seating being available as well as work consoles. The tail unit incorporates a Multhopp "T-style" tailplane arrangement in which the horizontal planes are seated at the absolute top edge of the single vertical fin. For ground-running, a conventional (wholly retractable) tricycle undercarriage is featured.

All versions of this aircraft are powered by the proven Honeywell HTF7500E series turbofan engine. The engine was first run by the company in 1999 and powers other types such as the Gulfstream G280 and Bombardier Challenger 300/350 series jets. The engines are mounted on outboard wingstubs along the aft section of the fuselage, as far away from the passenger cabin as possible to reduce operating noise.

The Legacy 450 model can seat seven to nine passengers in high-level comfort and has an overall length of 64.6 feet with a height of 21 feet and a wingspan of 63.2 feet. MTOW reaches 23,000lb.

Embraer launched the program that would produce the Legacy/Praetor series in April of 2008 - resulting in the first two entries in the series, the Legacy 450 and dimensionally larger Legacy 500 models. The subsequent Praetor 500 and Praetor 600 entries were realized late-2018. The Praetor 600 granted certification in April of 2019 followed by the Praetor 500 in August.
