G120 - Base Series Designation.
G120A (Air-Cooled) - Fitted with Lycoming AEIO-540-D4D5 air-cooled engine of 260 horsepower.
G120TP ("Turboprop") - Fitted with a Rolls-Royce 250-B17F turboprop engine of 456 horsepower.

May 2018 - The Indonesia Air Force became the recipient of six additional G120TP turboprop-powered basic trainers from Grob. The service now fields a fleet of thirty such aircraft. The order dates back to a deal signed in 2011 of which the initial twenty-four were received from the period spanning 2013 to 2016.

July 2018 - The G120TP trainer was debuted publicly for the first time at Farnborough 2018.

May 2021 - The Swedish Air Force has selected the Grob 120TP to become its next Basic Training platform. The announcement was made on May 5th, 2021 with the initial contract to cover seven airframes and related ground-based equipment including simulators.
