JS 9mm Submachine Gun (2006)
The JS 9mm submachine gun has only recently entered production in China in 2006 and is intended for the export market.
The JS 9 is chambered for the locally-designed and produced 9x19mm DAP92-9 armor-piercing cartridge but can also accept the universal 9x19 Parabellum round. The JS 9 typically accepts a 20- or 30-round detachable box magazine. The firing action is of conventional blowback from an open bolt, consistent with other successful submachine gun designs. There is a fire selector that allows for semi-automatic fire and full-automatic fire while a squeeze safety is fitted to the rear of the pistol grip and must be pressed for the weapon to fire. Rate-of-fire is approximately 400 rounds-per-minute with a muzzle velocity of 1,052 feet per second. Effective range is out to 400 feet. Overall weight of the weapon is a handy 4.4lbs. A sound suppressor can be affixed to the muzzle while optics, night-vision and laser aimers can be fitted to the top-mounted universal Picatinny rail system.
Outwardly, the JS 9 mimics much of the original design form of the QCW-05 before it. Like the original, the JS 9 is also of bullpup configuration meaning that the magazine and feed are located behind the pistol grip and internal firing mechanism. The ejection port is set to the left side of the receiver, making the submachine gun rather left-handed "unfriendly". There is a short polymer buttstock that incorporates the magazine feed and the magazines themselves are curved forward. The pistol grip is ergonomic and integrated into an oblong trigger guard with a solid curved trigger unit. There is a short forend for two handed use and the barrel accepts a silencer for suppressed work. Sights include a fixed front peep type with a flip-up rear installation to go along with an open sight block arrangement. The JS 9 breaks down into seven major pieces, is lightweight and compact for exceptional close-quarters work by military, police, security or special forces-minded units.
