Ribbon Identification Colors: green; yellow; red
Visual Description (Ribbon):
Thin green band into a thick yellow band. Three thin red bands against yellow and then a thick yellow band culminating in a thin green band at the edge.
Visual Description (Medal):
Rounded bronze shape; image depicts oriental dragon at center behind a grove of bamboo trees; under the scene is the text "Republic of Vietnam Service"; REVERSE: Crossbow facing upwards with a torch fitted as the bolt to be fired; surrounding the lower half of the scene is the text "United States of America".
Award Criteria:
Awarded to service personnel of the United States military having actively served in Vietnam or its adjacent waters and airspace after July 3rd, 1965 through March 28th, 1973 in active direct support of actions for the United States; includes operations in Thailand, Laos and Cambodia; may be awarded in lieu of the Armed Forcs Expeditionary Medal though one person shall not receive both awards.
